Essential Oils are natural, volatile, highly aromatic, hydrophobic liquids extracted from the leaves, stems, roots, barks, flowers, or other parts of plants and are typically obtained via steam or fractional distillation, solvent extraction, mechanical or cold pressing expression, resin tapping, or carbon dioxide extraction. Essential oils retain the characteristic fragrance, essence, or aroma of the plant or other source from which it is extracted. In odor control, essential oils provide distinct advantages over synthetic fragrances found in water based formulations in that essential oils expand--not evaporate--in the presence of heat. Essential oils are potent, concentrated liquids, and typical application volumes are far less than water based formulations (ounces versus gallons, in certain situations); essential oils are more economical to use than water based formulations. These natural aromas provide effective deodorization and odor neutralization without artificial masking agents or synthetic fragrances, which can be more irritating than the odor source.
